“Our true friends are those who are with us when the good things happen. They cheer us on and are pleased by our triumphs. False friends only appear at difficult times, with their sad, supportive faces, when, in fact, our suffering is serving to console them for their miserable lives.”
― Paulo Coelho, The Zahir
It is hard to understand why so many of the people who were in our lives before, are so far out of it now, as we get older. I read this the other day and haven’t been able to get it out of my mind.

boy did this quote resonate with me! I lost a good friend during Covid, she just blocked me for no reason, and it hurts ❤

This makes me wonder about his view of friends. I believe friends are the ones who are there when times are good AND rally around you when times are bad. And they are supportive – not because they relish your suffering but because they suffer with you!

I agree with you however there are those people who you only hear from when things go bad. I guess I am sort of tainted because of all the people who no longer make an effort now that the funerals are over for my boys.

I guess. I like keeping in touch wih people and don’t mind if it is unfrequent. It is just when you never hear from someone again you wonder why

Very true. It’s hurtful to break the bonds of friendship
