Write a rondeau inspired by a childhood memory.

My World

Little dollies in a circle of some magic place
Toys lined up so properly, each in its own small space
Pack it up when I am done, no need to leave a mess
For there are other things to do, a shelf-full more or less
Each item spreading joy to me, a smile on my face

Its okay if I take my time this is no running race
A positively happy world, of solitude and grace
Playing by myself a lot is okay I confess
I know that I am loved

Making blankets and small clothes with fabric lined with lace
Taking time to stitch with care, a mess would leave a trace
Mom is happy to provide the pattern for a dress
If she would make it honestly it’d be a lot less stress
This could take longer than it should if stuck with my slow pace
I know that I am loved

  1. To me this triggers memories.
My mother was extremely neat and clean and tidy. It interfered with my play, and I never felt I lived up to her expectations.
And then there is your refrain: ¨I know that I am loved¨.
    Glad to read that!
