Awdl Gywydd. Welsh quatrain with end and internal rhymes.

awdl gywydd is pronounced “ow-dull gee-youth.”

  • Four lines
  • Seven syllables per line
  • The final syllable of the first and third lines rhyme with the 3rd-5th syllable of the following lines
  • The second and fourth lines rhyme.

Here’s a possible version (the a and c rhymes can slide a little):

xxxxxxa
Xxaxxxb
xxxxxxc
Xxxxcxb

Hindsight

Going on a bumpy ride
I decide what I should do
Hold on tight and do not scream
Its like a bad dream outside

But here I am at the zoo
I know who I should have brought
My students from my old class
Since they always thought me Sass!
