Look ‘round my house
You know what you’ll see
Candles galore
Lit carefully
To get rid of the smells
That live with us too
Like guinea pigs, dogs,
the laundry, an old shoe
I also adore
The light they produce
Flickering flames
Lights free and let loose
The one thing to know
as you go down to sleep
Blow out the flames
Before counting your sheep

  1. Haha!! A fun poem that has some wise words too! I’m afraid of candles in the house after a friend’s house burned down – she had lots of candles and one was a cheap dollar store purchase. The glass jar broke and the wax spilled and burned and pretty soon her living room was engulfed. It spread so quickly. Fortunately she woke up from her nap in time (the kids were at school and their dog was outside). She was able to call the fire department but it was too late. By the time they got there most of the house was toast….
