Lesley’s prompt guideline

  • Compose a free verse poem of any length (but consider that I am a slow reader; save the tomes for next time);
  • Thematic: The theme for this poem should be ~ “the SUN”

Oh, Sun!

Oh, heat of the earth,
light of the day,
maker of food and life
in summer we find you offensive
we hide from you
we provide others shelter from you
we avoid you and your rays
in winter we find you complimentary
we seek you out
we want to share your presence
we look up to you and feel your warmth
on our skin
Can you not find the perfect middle?
Can you not move farther back when you are
so hot and closer when it is cold?
Sun, I worship your light
I harness your power
I fear your wrath
but of nothing else
I respect your unending beauty.
