Ode to my Hydroponic Planter: W3 Prompt #74: Wea’ve Written Weekly

  • Inspired by Neruda’s electric, surreal images, write a joyful ode to an ordinary object in your life. It doesn’t matter what it is, think kindly about how to honor and describe this praiseworthy item of yours.
  • This particular poem of Neruda’s consists of 215 words, so try to bring yours close to the word count. Not exactly– close; but not too short. AND Joyful, remember!

Ode to my Hydroponic Planter

I thought of you
One day
As I wished
I could have
Fresh herbs
Whenever
I wanted

I searched
for you
On sites
And wondered
What would
Make you
Perfect
For me

I found you
And
I thought
That you seemed
Perfect
And so
I ordered you

And you came
I assembled you
I set you up
After finding
The right spot
To leave you

And I filled you
With water
From my tap
And added
The perfect
Combination
Of plant foods
So that you
Could help
Me
Grow
My herbs

And my herbs
Did grow
In you,
And I planted
Kale
And flowers
And all
Of my seeds
Sprouted
Into plants

But you grew
Too small
For me
My desire was
To plant more
To plant different
Things
Just
To see
How they grew

I bought
Another just like you
But it isn’t the same
Because you
Seem to grow
My plants faster
Than the new
Model
Oh,
How I wish
I had just
Got another
Of you
Instead of
Trying for
Something better

But I will
Live
Happily
With both of you
As one of you
Provides kale
For my guinea pigs
And the other
My herbs
Some which
Go to
The guinea pigs
but
So that
Despite the heat
Or the cold
I may have
Fresh herbs
Whenever
I want them.
