Boss of You: W3 Prompt #68: Wea’ve Written Weekly

  • Write an ekphrastic poem in response to this image of a yawning cat created by Matt Snyder.
    • ek·phra·sis: “description” in Greek. A vivid description of a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the “action” of a painting or sculpture, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning.

Boss of You

Open wide and take a breath
time goes by no matter what you say
Sitting in the window to enjoy the sun
or on the pillow of your human
waiting for them to return to find peace
For it is in this peace you may mew
You may groom or snooze
You have had your quiet time
Now is the time for attention
if that is what you choose
Or you may choose to lay quietly
as you are the boss of you.
