Home invasion

The prison guards were responsible for filling in a hole in my basement which some of the convicts used to escape. The prisoners managed to take advantage of a flaw in the prison structure which allowed them to dig a tunnel to the outside. The tunnel ran from the shower basin in their cell and ended right next to the furnace in my basement. They worked for 20 months to chip through the slate flooring and then dig a 70-foot-long tunnel to reach outside of the prison. In total, the fugitives were out of jail for about nine hours, but they scarred the hell out of me when I saw them emerging from my basement. During their short period of freedom, they tried hard to keep their minds from wandering about where they would go and where they belonged. To me, it really didn’t matter if they were bad people…
