If Angels Fall
Predictable but a good story
If Angels Fall by Rick Mofina is the story of a religious zealot who became that way after losing his three children in a boating accident. The storyline is very interesting and although the plot is fairly predictable it is a good story overall.
Three kids are kidnapped, beginning with a little boy Danny. Gone without a trace no one knows where to start looking until child number two is snatched from a park. Tom Reed, a crime reporter starts delving deeper into the crimes and thinks he has a suspect. The problem is that the last time Reed thought he had a “good” suspect, the man killed himself declaring he was innocent of the crime. Reed isn’t in good standing with the paper anymore, the public, or his soon-to-be ex-wife. When Reed gets drawn in unexpectedly people start listening to him.
I gave this book four out of five stars for the level of detail the author puts into each storyline. The characters are well-developed and the plot seems reasonably realistic. The narrator has a great voice for the story and does a great job however, he seems to have a strong East Coast accent that doesn’t seem to go with his West Coast character’s job. The plot is also predictable but there is enough interesting meat within the plot to keep the story captivating. It is a little long so by the end you just want to skip to see what finally happens. As a reader of thrillers, this book seemed like I had “read it before”. Overall, it is a well-written book and I would definitely listen to books by Rick Mofina again.

I enjoy thrillers, they are one of my favourite genres to read!
