A deeper abyss resides
keeping down the fragile
despite the cheering
and urging of others
tragedy, sorrow, grief
pushing
pulling
crushing
until the darkness
is all around
and there is no longer
a way out

this is all a lie
an excuse
a sad response
sucking in the sick
grasping at straws
excusing the madness
enveloping
dragging
kicking
telling us
to keep fighting
for light
