Who sees the inner self?
The layer beneath the surface,
Or the layer beneath that?
Like an onion
They overlap and peel away,
To reveal the vulnerable
Whose tears are their only defense.
Looking out, the mind crumbles,
No-one understands
Each protective covering
Is as fragile as the one preceding it.
Look into my eyes.
Do you see a disjointed face
Or do these segments
Merge to form the whole?
