Write a reverse poem. A reverse poem can be read forward and backward (top to bottom or bottom to top, line by line). The meaning of the poem changes depending on the direction you read it in.

I wrote and rewrote probably 10 different poems, and I was not happy with any of them. This was the last one that is somewhat okay so I need to let it go and just post it.

Memories of the past

I want to remember the good times
Even though things change from day to day
I often lose memories in a dark cloud
Because time continues without slowing
Pictures in my mind are bright
When I think about what really matters
Sadness fills me with a sort of darkness
and new choices lead to new decisions
I keep moving through life seeking out joy

  1. Christine, this is such a good exploration of memory and change. The dual perspectives, both forward and backward, add a unique layer to the narrative, and your final piece beautifully captures the ebb and flow of life’s experiences. Well done on creating a thought-provoking and well-executed poem 😀

    • I found this one sight that said to think about it like this….Find two opposing views (of anything). Then write a positive comment about it. Next write a neutral comment that can be attributed to anything. Then write a more negative viewed comment. Keep going back and forth between + = – for as long as you want. That was the only way I was able to do it.
