Wine: Poetry Compilation May 2, 2022

Wine

Can anybody juxtapose
the difference between
a flush of cheeks or blush of wine
or what they really mean?
The crimson that is found in wine
is caustic to the fruit
The winery can tell you how
it isn’t easy to compute
But diligently waiting
I listen to the man
like a mushroom on a rotted stump
where the sunlight doesn’t span
I find out what it’s made of
this wine I drink so fast
I barely even notice
how much time has really passed.
I rise up to my feet and say
thank you for the wine
And thank you for the lesson
My time with you was fine.

What do you see?

Sadje is the host: https://lifeafter50forwomen.com/2022/05/02/what-do-you-see-132-may-2nd-2022/

A Man

You only see my color
not my insides, not my brain
I pray that you will listen
but my praying is in vain
I’m worth more than you give me
I’m worth more than you get
I’m just another person
How could you forget?
When God put me before him
I was a person with a heart
But now that he’s not here
I’ve had to find a place to start
For God is with us always
And it was in his plan
To make us all remember
It’s not the color, it’s the man.

The Sunday Whirl: Wordle 551

pet eternity box trail flash detective check relish planets embellish moon tip

Dreamscape

My mind is flying high as I somersault through space
Looking for eternity, I dash then my slow pace
The planets soar right past me on my way straight to the moon
Knowing of my mission, the end can’t come too soon.
I embellish all my plans with a box that I can check
To see if I am happy, I feel just like a wreck
With my faithful pet beside me, relishing my speed
We leave a trail of silver lightening, a flashbulb is my lead
I act like a detective with a mission to complete
Tips and tricks abound as I rise up to my feet
I see the bed before me and know I was asleep
But the dreams I had regarded remain there, buried deep.

The Journey: April 30, 2022 Compilation

Taking a sabbatical of all the urban strife
Feeling quite unsatisfied with such a negative life
I took my leave and grabbed my cap, the one of fox and hare
tantalizing life beyond, heading for nowhere
The beginning was unscrupulous, my faith was sourly teased
But thinking of what was to come put my mind at ease
A snowmobile up on the lake in North Wahnapitae
was perfect on this winter
morn to start a gorgeous day
A mouthwatering lunch was next, upon the oozing snow
A maid was there to help me fix a legion on my toe
Feeling better now I could say “Oooh I feel so good”
I took myself and made my way back to the snowy wood.
I found a little fairy there to share my newfound youth
But left me when she realized she wouldn’t get my tooth
I bid farewell to her and then I got back on the sled
I feel I had fulfilled my dreams as I drifted off to bed.

The Turtle

A cute little terrapin in a striped and oval shell
Satisfied his hunger in a way he knew real well
He started at the bottom ignoring smarmy rants
Waiting for his turn in the queue
Understanding circumstance
Heading to the pinnacle, determined he would win
A beam of light excited and invigorated him
For at the top of the peak there stood a tiny bug
He thought it over eagerly and waited for a hug.
The little tiny Chutzpah had made it to the top
Now his short and tired legs knew that they could stop.

For visually challenged writersthe image shows a sign in the foreground with the words ‘Den Building’ on it. In the background is a den made of leaves and branches.

Hiding in a den
Hidden from the light
Eyes glow in the darkness
Giving us a fright
No sounds but little ticking
from clocks around our wrists
Looking for an exit
our minds and fears entwist
light slowly encroaches
diminishing our fears
Sounds of puppy panting
is music to our ears.

But it’s like a shard of fate
Like narrow yellow petals
a flower blue with purple dots
my venial behavior
has got me tied in knots.

The Cat in the Hat sat back in his chair
He motioned the children, “Come on over here”.
They looked at the screen and were totally awed
At the mirror that smoked, it had to be flawed.
But the Cat took their hands and he tried to explain
“What you see on the screen, well it isn’t all sane”
He continued to show them some other strange sites
like Fandango and Bushboy, and a Stine who just writes.
Then they closed up the tab and went back to the toys
That they knew how to use without unfettered ploys
When their mother came home and the children were fed
She thanked the smart cat and sent the kids straight to bed.

Fandango and Bushboy, I hope you don’t mind me using your names in my work. They just popped into my head and fit nicely!

Leaving Town: Today’s prompt compilation

I was feeling particularly cynical
when it came to
my life
Elegant cars, grand parades
But a melodramatic wife
We lived on the edge
of a town that we knew
the businesses useless
and irrelevant too.
We seemed quite unfit
in the roister found here
As wifey was reticent
As was I, to be clear
Like a carbuncle found
on the butt of a lad
The accessories here
were like some awful fad
We didn’t fit in
like a gold mirror tray
on a gold silk blanket
with tulle
all astray.
So we loaded the car
for a much needed change
we drove out of that town
it was all really strange.
