Friends

A walk, a story, a snicker, and a sob. Not hand in hand but hearts connected. Sounds, smells, sights all provoke new memories, recall past, fond reminders.

Walking on the path
Best friends remember the days
Nothing can compare

A memory, an idea, silence, and tears. Hearts have known each other for years. The day was made to spend time with an old friend.

#Haikai Challenge #147 (7/11/20): smoldering [hot] (moyuru) #haiku #senryu #haibun #tanka #haiga #renga

Looking left to right there is nothing but sand. The wind picks up a layer and swirls it to make new designs. Heat can be seen laying closely to the sand, almost touching the earth. Life is limited and sparse.

Desert is smouldering
Life lives in a different way
Dryness and heat here

Public school

Back in the seventies when plaid was the thing
bright colors were typical, as were tans and browns
The pants of children, both boys and girls
Toys made by Playskool, Play-doh, and Fisher Price.

Summer picnics, family and friends gather
to celebrate the season of the summer and the holidays
Birthday parties with moon-bounce houses
Clowns come in plaid pants recovered from the seventies.

Math classes, art classes, all grades
Grids and maps, primary colors, color wheels
Data entry, following patterns, coding
Shapes, colors, directions, codes all in grade school until graduation.

Enter public schools
Children become teens then
Graduate high school.

Haibun Monday 30/03/2020: Snapshots of Our Lives

Write a prose background to your chosen poem, giving us more details of when and where it happened, who else was involved, the how and the why, including a link to the original poem if you wish, and then sum up the poem in a haiku.  Aim to write no more than three tight paragraphs, followed by a traditional haiku that includes reference to the season. https://dversepoets.com/

I had to look back and find a poem that I wrote last year, that is when I really started writing. I didn’t put it on a blog, as I wasn’t blogging at that point either! I found this poem that I titled “Color my memories” when I was writing poetry for children. I wasn’t really aware then, that poetry is not really desired for publication from traditional publishers. Shel Silverstein was always one of my most favorite authors, so when I began writing I had him in mind. Later, as I looked for a traditional publisher, I read on one bio after another that no one wants poetry for young readers. It is too bad.

This poem I wrote based on real things I remember.

Color my memories

Memories spin in my mind.

Red raspberries out in grandma’s backyard with silver beetles under the leaves.

Blue water swirling with sunshine against an aqua blue liner in the above ground pool.

Green grass to be mowed twice a week with a red walk-behind mower.

Purple irises in the flower garden smelling so sweet but not to pick.

Black tar on the driveway for popping tar bubbles and for sunning all day.

Yellow sunlight as bright as grandma’s huge Chevrolet with no seat belts.

Orange slices cut to quench your thirst and make a fake smile.

Brown shades of skin darkening with each summer day.

Memories spin like a color wheel. (©2019 CBialczak)

Sometimes we believe
Children live colorful lives
One to remember

Love on the Beach: Haibun

Written for http://chevrefeuillescarpediem.blogspot.com/

The warmth of the sun lingers on the sand, providing a comfortable bed upon which they lay. Their bodies intertwine, searching for the feeling of comfort and love, finding warm skin and the grit of sand. Having the beach to themselves was like having their own world, with all of the beauty surrounding them; waves lapping at the shore, seagulls touching down for scraps of food, the sun setting slowly at the horizon.

My love for you flows
Like the tide of the deep blue
Ocean peacefulness.

Heeding Haiku With Chèvrefeuille, February 26th 2020, Cherry Tree In Full Bloom

cherry trees in full bloom Japan

Tiny buds open into light pink flowers
Bees buzz for nectar and birds perch for the warmth of the branches
Spring is coming and the world is beginning to awaken.

Light pink flowers bloom
To spread life and joy around
For all to enjoy.
