WordPress Question of the Day

What was the best compliment you’ve received?

At first I thought about my teaching and how my old student, Monique, said I was “a really good teacher”.
Then I thought about my store on Etsy and my miniatures and all of the positive feedback I have gotten from customers.
But it could be when David said I’m a unicorn! ❤️

Baiting His Hook (Simply 6 Minutes)

Jezzie’s Sonnet

Inspired by and written for Simply 6 Minutes – thank you, Christine

Form: Deplorable Sonnet

Isn’t it time you got a new car, mate?
So cool on your drive and you won’t be late
Pick up a girl and take her on a date
Take them away, I have a motorbike

I hear what you’re saying, bud, take a look
These beauties are hot. and just off the book
And the salesman keeps on baiting his hook
Take them away, I have a motorbike

But behind the wheel, man, you’ll feel alive
Give one a chance, take it for a test drive

Dude, can’t you hear no, just give it a rest
There’s a problem, mate. I ain’t done the test
I ride and a biker’s life suits me best
Take them away, I have a motorbike

Time: 9 minutes 10 seconds

Take Flight

Jim says Taco Bell gives you gas…or at least the birds

A Unique Title For Me

The bird knew all the best places to scavenge for food and when it was hungry enough, it would resort to eating roadkill and garbage, but it enjoyed eating Mexican food and it hoped to find some tasty morsels at the Taco Bell parking lot, if it got there at the right time.  Today was one of those lucky days, as someone threw a half-eaten burrito away and that made a very satisfying meal.  It gave the bird gas, which wasn’t a big problem as it could always take flight and not have to smell it, but you wouldn’t want to be flying behind this bird after it consumed that bean burrito.

Simply 6 Minutes – Welcome to the Challenge: 03/21/2023

Welcome to the 6-minute challenge!

Today’s prompt is:

This is a picture of a bird flying with the jet trail from an airplane behind it.

*****For any participants that do NOT like restrictions, please feel free to participate in any way you would like. It is great to read the contributions!****

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
  6. Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.

Thank you for participating!

About the Author

Ever since his mother told him he was descended from Vikings, Andrew Varga has had a fascination for history. He’s read hundreds of history books, watched countless historical movies, and earned a BA from the University of Toronto with a specialist in history and a major in English.

Andrew has traveled extensively across Europe, where he toured some of the most famous castles, museums, and historical sites that Europe has to offer. During his travels he accumulated a collection of swords, shields, and other medieval weapons that now adorn his personal library. He is skilled in fencing and Kendo—the Japanese art of sword fighting. He has also used both longbows and crossbows, built a miniature working trebuchet, knit his own shirt of chain mail, and earned a black belt in karate.

Andrew currently lives in the greater Toronto area with his wife Pam, their three children, and their mini-zoo of two dogs, two cats, a turtle, and some fish. It was his children’s love of reading, particularly historical and fantasy stories, that inspired Andrew to write this series. In his spare time, when he isn’t writing or editing, Andrew reads history books, jams on guitar, or plays beach volleyball.
