Simply Six Minutes- 1/24/23 Maximus RIP

Susan’s stairway to heaven

Sillyfrog's Blog

The challenge is to write a story in 6 minutes using the photo below as the prompt.

My people called me “Fluffy”. But you can call me “Maximus”.

That’s what my homies called me.

Yep, I was all THAT after dark with the ‘ladies’ too.

I lapped saucers of milk (that gave me gas), squeezed into tissue boxes, sprawled on keyboards, but mostly lazed on windowsills during the day… every day, until last Spring.

It was then my people decided to renovate the cellar, but they conveniently forgot to barricade the crawlspace under the front porch, so it was then I found my avenue to FREEDOM.

Tipping garbage cans and yowling at the moon made me feel alive!

Then I saw her. The prettiest little calico on Earth!

Matty was her name and lovin’ was her game. M-E-O-W!

Now it’s over. My 9th life left me after an ill-timed leap…

Simple Picture

“How old is he?” he asks
My breath stops for a moment
thoughts swirl
heart beats harder
tears begin to flow
“He isn’t here anymore” I say
My throat feels like it is closing
Tears come
Dread, will there be another
question?
Sadness that he is gone too
Sadness that so many people
in my life
are gone.

Today I went to see my dad in the Memory Care Unit he lives at. I was showing him pictures of my miniatures and then handed him my phone to show him my latest completed miniature. He began touching pictures and my son’s picture came up. He recognized him.

Optimistic

Jim describes the optical illusion a bit

A Unique Title For Me

Clearly the cat is walking up the stairs because cats love to climb, but eventually he will have to go down again.  The Schröder staircase illusion may be perceived either as a cat climbing up a staircase or going down same staircase because your brain focuses on separate sections of the image and perceives that the stairs are joined together.  German mathematician and physicist Heinrich G. F. Schröder published his optical Illusion staircase in 1858 and this would later evolve into other works done by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher.  Your brain can see the cat going up or down the stairs and this psychological phenomenon is known as the Gestalt Shift, (meaning the way a thing has been “placed,” or “put together”) where your perception switches between different interpretations.  When things are close together, we tend to think that they’re related.  The most famous illustration of this phenomenon…

Fat Cats

Cats, out of all the domesticated creatures, are by far the most independent. With a dog, they do everything to please their owner, part of your pack, they make sure your needs are met before their own. A cat, well, they are totally different. They will pester you until they are fed, choose to go out in the summer. Are determined to stay in the house during winter – they don’t like to be cold when going to the toilet. Sometimes a comfy cushion, or sofa, is preferable to going outside.

Dogs, when well trained, will hold it in. Although, when my dog was on steroids, we had to let him out regularly, even in the early hours, because he just couldn’t help it.

Cats, they try to teach us to hunt, leaving us a little present of a dead mouse or bird on our doorstep. It…

Christine is our host and this is our picture this week

This picture shows a cat either walking up or walking down a set of stairs, but you can’t tell the direction it is going.
Am I going down or coming up?
Haha, I am going ALONG.
The floor is flat and it’s my servant human’s idea of a joke to paint the hall this way.
I humour him.He doesn’t get out much.

Fair Maiden: Compilation 01/24/2023

Boughton, George Henry; The Lady of the Snows; Walker Art Gallery; http://www.artuk.org/artworks/the-lady-of-the-snows-97671

There, amidst a clearing in the dark woods,
stood
a maiden with her hair bound up tight
A paintbrush poised beside her bundled hands
In this land its a ubiquitous sight

An ideal place exists in forests
So still, where silence hides a tranquil place
No utter madness of the modern world
No new electric nor developed space

But what is this I still can hear
a sound with feeling draws me back
a topical solution found
Where once was only a small crack

So leave us, her and I alone
to guide silent inferences here
so glory may be sent to God
to leave majestic beauty near.

Truthful Tuesday

Are you a keen DIY-er or do you prefer to get the professionals in?

For 25 years I lived with and was married to a builder/roofer/foreman/construction superintendent. When I lost him to sickness in 2018 I was completely at a loss when I needed things repaired. I guess I took a lot of it for granted. Growing up my dad did most of the stuff around the house too. Anyhow, after having one crappy contractor rip me off after another I am now a complete DIY-er unless it comes to plumbing and most electrical. Just yesterday I was leveling the drawers on one of the kitchen cabinets that I guess I never noticed was so crooked. The guy did such a horrible job it isn’t even fixable in most of the areas. Do you know how much I paid for those cabinets that are now all f-ed up?!?!?! Anyhow, I told David if I ever redo a kitchen I am doing the installation of all the lower cabinets, the uppers are too heavy.

Di is hosting this right now: https://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2023/01/24/truthful-tuesday-24th-january/

Peacefulness: Compilation 01/24/23

A sweet little chirp to say hello
on a beautiful day near the sea
A sweep of the waves wash worry away
And let happiness build up inside me
No hostile thoughts can tear at my mind
For at the front of my mind love will be.

Daily Question

If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

That he doesn’t need to bark at every noise, only the noises from people trying to break in the house or hurt us…robbers, burglars, home invaders, etc.

Simply 6 Minutes – Welcome to the Challenge: 01/24/2023

Welcome to the 6-minute challenge!

Today’s prompt is:

Cat up or down stairs
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

*****For any participants that do NOT like restrictions, please feel free to participate in any way you would like. It is great to read the contributions!****

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
  6. Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.

Thank you for participating!
