Barfly: Today’s Compilation May 8, 2022

In the middle of trouble
Where nothing makes sense
A fool will be pious
But to his defense
The drunk at the bar
Is quite erratic you see
With dirt clod fingernails
Never silver money
The heat of the moment
When one should take flight
Sometimes refuses
and imbibes in a fight
The alchemy there
In the core of his brain
Is like a carnation
After icy cold rain
Physics should surmount
The bright gold lit light
Is really a senseless
Brainwave from the fight
A snack will help fix
The untimely glow
on the poor drunkard’s face
As it’s part of the show
A ticket to nowhere
Will be true, you see
Is where the barfly
Should put his money.

This week the theme is songs that mention Socks, Shoes, Boots.

It took a while and David’s music knowledge to remember what song I was thinking of, but this is one of my favorite songs. It has been redone by so many fantastic artists but this is my favorite version.

Mr. Bojangles

I knew a man “Bojangles”, and he danced for you
In worn out shoes
Silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants
The old soft shoe

He jumped so high
He jumped so high
And then he’d lightly touch down

I met him in a cell in New Orleans, I was
Down and out
He looked to me to be the eyes of age
As the smoke ran out

He talked of life
He talked of life
He laughed, clicked his heels and stepped

He said his name “Bojangles”, and he danced a lick
Across the cell
He grabbed his pants and feathered stance
Oh, he jumped so high
Then he clicked his heels

He let go a laugh
He let go a laugh
Shook back his clothes all around

Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles

He danced for those in minstrel shows and county fairs
Throughout the south
He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him
Traveled about
The dog up and died, he up and died
After twenty years he still grieves

He said, “I dance now at every chance in honky tonks
For drinks and tips
But most the time I spend behind these county bars
‘Cause I drinks a bit”

He shook his head
And as he shook his head
I heard someone ask him “Please”

E.M.’s Sunday Ramble Prompt #23

Check out the prompt here:

Here are the questions:

  1. When did you start your blog? I started my blog in 2018/2019 shortly after losing my first husband. I had always wanted to have a blog but never pursued it. Then I had some extra time on my hands. As many of my “friends” here know, when I told my sister I wanted to start blogging she simply told me that “no one wants to hear you crying about your dead husband”.
  2. Did you start with a theme, or did it come later on? I didn’t start with a theme because I purposely did NOT want it to be all doom and gloom…about death and so forth. All I knew was that I wanted to have a positive place to find people with similar minds and attitudes who had similar interests. I didn’t even really know what “blogging” was.
  3. What is your favorite post that you have ever written on your blog? Wow, I don’t know. I have had a few that have gotten lots of comments, some not so much. I think some of the ones I wrote about losing my son were good, those had so much feeling in them. This one, though, is one of my favorites, it is about my dad, who now lives in a memory care facility who has Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
  4. Do you share your blog with friends and family, or do you keep your blogging world separate from them? I have certainly mentioned it. I know a few people who will on the odd occasion mention that they read something I wrote, but that is usually because my posts go to Facebook and Twitter. Every now and again David will say that he liked something I wrote but I don’t think anyone actually goes to my blog to check it out.
  5. What is the best advice you could give someone who is new to blogging? Be honest, be yourself, don’t harp on all the negative, especially if you don’t want to heed any advice, and join in challenges. The challenges have really helped me 1. meet other bloggers, 2. improve my writing, and 3. write in other ways than I ever would have even known about.

A COUNTDOWN TO ______________

Time for Chores

Sometimes I sit and start to think
of all I have to do
I think of home and work and such
and friends though I have few
I want to set my house all straight
with all my things in place
I want my yard and pool to shine
but at my own slow pace
My laundry’s clean, not put away
the sheets need washing too
the kitchen sink is in repair
the bath will have to do
Dog hair sticks to everything
I try to keep it clean
but all these things just pile up
Do you know just what I mean?

From my desk: May 8, 2022

First let me say Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers, wherever the children may be. Today is a hard day for me as I struggle to enjoy beautiful memories while trying to acknowledge but not let sad memories prevail. Motherhood, if it is right for you, is wonderful. For those who don’t have children for whatever reason…I’m sure you are just as important to someone, so celebrate the day!

My Frog Problem!!!

So, we have a bit of a frog problem. At first it was when we hadn’t gotten the pool chemicals all straightened out so I thought it was probably a good habitat. But since then, we keep it diligently clean and still, we have a frog issue. Now when I say frog issue…take a look at last weeks morning photos!

Absolutely horrifying! It took a lot of skimming and vacuuming to get all that gloppy jelly out of the pool. Well, the other night we went for a swim and I saw one. I had done a little research into the problem, as I don’t want to kill them, just get them out of my pool. So I spread a layer of coffee grounds around the outside of the pool and for almost a week no frogs. We had rain twice this week and I thought I should go back out with the coffee but was lax about it. I have not gone out yet this morning but I was woken last night to a chorus of frog sex and partying! I ran out with the coffee, scooped the few in the pool, and kept my fingers crossed before going to bed. If the problem is bad, I will post pictures later. I just can’t have my morning ruined by that now.

Anyhow, we have googled many things about the frog issue and it seems that one of the problems may be the small solar lights I have around the yard. Apparently, although not the lighting they show on the internet, maybe that is enough light to attract bugs which then attracts frogs. Poison is not an option. I don’t want to sterilize my backyard.

Have a beautiful day and if you don’t see a frog problem post from me, you can take it that I walked out to a clean pool. Otherwise it will be a few hours before I horrify everyone with my frog pond pictures!
