#AtoZChallenge 2022 – April 25 (U,V, and W)

I signed up for this challenge although I had no idea what I would pick as a theme. I still don’t know. I found it here: http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/

I wonder if I can make it up as I go…is that a theme? Random thoughts? Voila! Chosen!

Random Thoughts – ©2022 CBialczak

I am really behind for some reason! Yikes today is going to be a biggie. Thanks for reading if you stop by and give me your time!

U – Update (thank you word generator!)

No instant recalls
no debates
just the facts
as they relate
Some random thoughts
at any rate
Heres my daily
life update.

V – Village

It takes a village, if not two
to do the things we try to do
when kids are young and need to learn
how to spend and how to earn
What to buy and what to sell
Teach it all, you might as well
When they grow, they’ll grow up right
But it won’t happen overnight.
They may wander, they may fall
You tried your best over all.

W – Weakness

Tommy Tucker from down the street
came to our house so he could eat
His mother couldn’t cook a soup
His hunger flowed in a constant loop
The weakness of the house it seems
was mom and dad were not on teams
they did their things for one not all
And Tommy Tucker took the fall
He was always hungry and never clean
His parents weren’t even mean
They just felt they had much to much
Of grownup chores to do and such.

The rest of the alphabet!

A

As I sit and ponder
another day of writing
and think of all I have done
as far as writing is concerned
a thought comes to me
as clear as day
an idea I guess
a poem a day perhaps?

B

Below blue billowing balloons
bisque-ware bakes before being
bathed by brushes bearing bright
bronze backgrounds boasting
beautiful blurry bedlam
beneath bedazzled brilliance.

C – Catch Me

Catching raindrops from the sky
Catch a glimpse of birds who fly
Catch a ball that flies through air
Catch a breeze blown through your hair
Catch me looking straight at you
Catch you looking at me too

D – Possibilities

Did you ever wonder what it’d be like
to discover the oceans’ deepest caves?
to fly to the farthest star known to man?
to walk in the same roads your ancestors walked?
to run faster than the wind?
to see beauty in the ugliest of pictures?
to hear a whisper on a busy, city street?
to taste the richness of the Milky Way?
to be happy with who you are right now?
Did you ever wonder what is possible?

E – A Haiku

Enclosed within reach
Love for you will never fail
I am always here

F – Four

Frankie, Felicia, Fiona and Fred
found themselves in one small, double bed
Fiona was cramped up next to the wall
Fred found his feet had no room at all
Frankie was happy ’cause he had the most
Felicia was sweaty like good buttered toast
The four of them slept, they slept good and hard
No noise nor the cat could get anyone jarred
They slept in the morning ‘for the day got too hot
And they never complained ’bout the small spot they got.

Georgie

Georgie G was a good little boy
Who loved his car, his favorite toy
He loved going past his mom real fast
Because seeing her laugh brought him joy

H – Huitain: Poetic Forms

Killing the world

Chemicals spill from the rooftops
The rain catches of all this junk
Pesticides kill all of my crops
My floating lotus is now sunk
A poacher walks around like a punk
Nobody cares anymore what dies
Sea turtles full of plastic gunk
The government is telling us lies

I – Interlocking Rubaiyat: Poetic Form

Interlocking Rubaiyat: Poetric Form (https://www.writersdigest.com/write-better-poetry/interlocking-rubaiyat-poetic-form)

Be Mine

Blue Bells and Dahlias are beautiful things
Like halos and diamonds and all other rings
They are not easy to come by, no, but yet
They’re better than bug bites or painful bee stings.

Now that I’m here and I’ve got my mind set
I’m going to wager a quite biggish bet
That flowers will bloom and diamonds will shine
And using a hose wrong will get me all wet

For now I will sit and drink my white wine
And chat with my hubby that I feel just fine
We’ll talk and might kiss, but just for a bit
And watch the sun set and he’ll say that he’s mine

J – Jumbled

Just a jumbled up old mess
my room is getting dark
I like it here I must confess
but not when it is stark.
I like my clothes strewn round the room
hanging off my chair
I even have a ziploc bag
full of my own hair.
When people come around me now
they know what not to say
I like my mess and this is how
my room and I will stay.

K – Kids

The Cat in the Hat was back again he loved his friendly kids
He knew their mother was not keen on what they usually did.
But despite the mothers sternest face the kids and cat had fun
The kids knew the poor cat’s to blame, he really was the one
He’d bring in toys and games and food, enough for a whole day
But like he told the mom each time, he’d put it all away.
She went to work and they had fun, they played with every toy
And when she got back home again, it was moms good girl and boy.
the house was clean, the kids were fed, the whole place looked real nice
Mom saw what the cat had done, thinking his childcare would suffice.

L – Sticky Liza

Like a lispy lizard
Liza licked her lips
Licking up the ice cream
the cone was making drips
It dripped on down her nighty
her lingerie of sorts
But to the bed she’d fallen
not making much efforts
then she woke up sticky
which Liza loved the best
She’d re-lick all the sticky
Just imagine all the rest.
The cotton got all bunchy
and in her throat it sat
Then she coughed a hairball
just like her tabby cat.
The hairball was disgusting
just full of fuzz and dirt
but now that she was clean again
she put on a new shirt.

M – Miss Mandy May

Miss Mandy May
Had a crappy day
She had a tire flat
she can’t drive like that!
She had a broken nail
She didn’t get her mail
She stepped in doggy poo
She thinks she has the flu
She got to work too late
Her boyfriend broke their date
She wants to go to bed
All she feels is dread
For now she stays at work
She knows she’s not a jerk.
So now Miss Mandy May
will work her day away!

N

Nine lives
Nice day
Not now
New shoes
Never ever
Night owl
Nip ‘n tuck
Nail polish
Nasty ass
Nobody’s home
Nighty night!

O – Ode

Odes address a specific person, thing, or event. The ode is believed to have been invented by the ancient Greeks, who would sing their odes. Modern odes follow an irregular pattern and are not required to rhyme. https://www.writingbeginner.com/how-to-write-an-ode/

When I think of who I am and where I am right now
I think of all the things I do, and then I think of how
I use my words to write and sing and share myself with you
Clay and fabric and some wood create the picture too.
I make the items that I see in my own mind and soul
Enjoying life and passing time really are my goal.
So I sit and wait until the inspiration flows
Creativity dampens none, it’s in me I suppose.

P – Plead (https://randomwordgenerator.com/)

I sit here and beg
I sit here and plead
I vow to be strong
but what if I bleed?
Do I have to be willing?
Do I have to agree?
Are you able to see
That this is me being me?

Q

The queen’s quest was to quickly question qualified quarterbacks in their quest for quiet yet quizzical quails.

R – Rictameter Poem – Routine (https://www.poetrysoup.com/dictionary/rictameter)

Routine
Keep life simple
Plan a beautiful day
Enjoy your day with those you love
Thankful for all that God has given you
Make your life easy and cheerful
Find time to love your life
embrace the day
Routine

S The Cat in the Hat FanFiction

The Cat in the Hat thought the day would be fine
The kids were in on it too
They wanted to find all the things with an “S
Like a stamp and a skirt and a shoe.
They looked in the cellar ’cause it sounded like “S
but were surprised to find only the dark
They looked at the ceiling fan spinning around
when they thought they saw the switch spark.
The Cat had decided to go to the park
outside would be a nice change
But snow was falling and the kids got too cold
The day would be rearranged.
The kids asked the cat if swimming would work
but the Cat said the ice was too thick
They told the Cat that they’d break the ice
their dad had a thing like a brick.
The Cat just laughed hard, he knew it was cold
and the snow would be freezing the ground
In the end they decided to stay in the house
where silence is what they all found.

Garbage Picker: My compilation, April 25, 2022

Garbage Picker

As outrageous as it is
I went along with her
following the mystery
the rest of its a blur
I felt just like a thief
a protagonist of sorts
digging through the refuse
thinking of the courts
and how to solve the problem
of going through the trash
like zealous little creatures
wanting mustard for their hash
I tried to share her disport
I tried to share the fun
but looking in the garbage
I was glad when it was done.

Share Your World — 04/25/2022

Melanie is the host of Share Your World: https://sparksfromacombustiblemind.wordpress.com/2022/04/25/share-your-world-and-be-kind-to-the-earth-4-25-2022/

QUESTIONS

In your opinion, how are we affecting our planet? I think many of us are ruining it when we don’t need to be. I don’t think it is all optional though. For example, we are getting our kitchen redone (even though I just fired the contractor!). Each cabinet came with cardboard on top, on bottom, around the sides…The one around the sides is line with plastic so I roll it and use it for drop clothes when I paint, but the rest I just break down and put out for the town guys to get. I don’t even know if it is recycled or put in the trash! Anyhow, I understand that it is shipped that way to avoid damage but imagine if a truck just came and dropped off the cabinets? I mean in the end the company might break even when they don’t have to pay for the production and use of all that cardboard. Another huge example, that makes me so angry, is junk mail. In the “junk mail” category I regrettably include mail from charitable sponsors. I mean, if the Disable Vets of America stopped sending me envelopes, with the postage, and then calendars and labels, book marks, etc. wouldn’t they have more money for the cause? They really even aren’t that bad. My father who has Alzheimer’s is still receiving mailing labels for his old address from a few organizations. Now, firstly, when I started living with him I sent each one back with a note saying he had Alzheimers so take him off the mailing list. Secondly, it’s his old address! My stepmother who has now been gone for over a year is still getting mailing labels and other various gifts even though I sent all of them back for a while with the word DECEASED written on the front. That is so much paper and I haven’t even gotten to the advertisements or the local flyers for supermarkets. Must I go on? Don’t get me going on packaging and plastics…Or food containers…

What solutions would you offer to stem the multiple problems we face vis a vis the destruction of our planet home? I think the best thing is to try and reuse as much as possible. I know there is not always an option. Then you have the plastics that they say if you reuse them there are chemicals that go into whatever you put in them. I also think we need to come up with more efficient ways of recycling. I have learned that most of our recycling has always gone to China. According to my source, China recycles more because they don’t have the EPA standards on air emissions like the US. I don’t know if this is true or not, and I don’t care to have an argument about it, but with what is going on in our world, China isn’t taking our products anymore. One way that I think is a really good idea is reusing the land that is used for landfills as public properties that don’t rely on ground water. For example, football fields and stadiums. Pipe in the water for drinking but that is a lot of surface area that can be saved and used more affectively. Disclaimer: these are only my ideas and not backed by any research. I’m just saying these things ’cause I think of them!

Do you think it’s already too late and we could just do exactly as we’re doing now and things would turn out the very same? I don’t think it is ever too late overall. I mean, yes we have animals that are extinct as well as plants and so on, but many of them can be saved. Also, now that we have the means, take DNA of things in danger, just in case. The saddest part of all this is the people who rely on things like poaching to survive. I do NOT agree with poaching and I DO believe it should be illegal but how do you stop the people from selling Ivory if that is the only way they make their money? Maybe we need more of an educational program for the world, and not just the advanced countries.

Do you participate in things like “Arbor Day” (a U.S. Holiday dedicated to planting new trees) or Earth Day or Earth Month? I don’t because for a few reasons. First, I really never remember about it until it is here or gone and then I think it is too late. Second, I haven’t always had a place to plant a new tree. I also don’t cut down any trees so that sort of counts, I think.

Is any of it important in the ‘Big Picture’? Yes, of course! If we don’t all join together to change some of the things affecting the earth, then we might as well just keep hoping and holding off the inevitable. You can’t change just some of it. Yes, some is better than nothing, but if we all don’t care the same it won’t be the same. I think we have just gotten so advanced that people care about different things. Maybe with technology some of the products we used to buy will decrease and that might help. I know that some things are necessary and some things are produced for good reason. It is the mindless stuff, like all the junk mail, that aggravates me the most.

GRATITUDE SECTION

What can you personally do to participate in the “Clean Earth” movement? I don’t litter and I pick up my dog poop. Dog poop doesn’t necessarily hurt the earth, but it hurts people’s shoes and livelihoods. I also use rainwater and water from the condenser, to cut down on fresh water use. I try to limit the amount of plastic I buy, especially if it is the kind that cannot be recycled.

I do have an idea, that is taken off of another that is already done, but…take all those plastic bottles that are littering the worlds’ waters and fill them with sand from areas that need to be cleared. Use them to build homes for either the homeless or for those living in areas of such poverty. Also, teach people in disadvantaged countries more ways to help themselves. I don’t think there are any immediate things, per say, but I think every bit will help.

The photograph below is from ninerio at DeviantArt.com.

For the visually challenged writer, the photo shows a couple embracing in front of a large, illuminated clock, as well as other smaller, x-ray-like images of the mechanical components of clocks.

Okay so mine isn’t prose, although it could be considered fiction.

First Kiss

Dancing in time
holding the moment
lives intertwined
loves bestowment
love will not fade
where it does exist
until the very end
from when we first kissed.

I suppose I could add a small fiction piece:

The Dare

Milly had dared Bernadette to do it and she couldn’t believe that her best friend went through with it!
The day before Bernadette was telling Milly how in love she was with Brandon.
If you’re so in love, Juliet, why don’t you show it at the drive-in tomorrow night!”
“What?!?! You want me to prove my love at the drive-in? That is disgusting. There is no way I am taking off any of my clothing in the back seat of Brandon’s car, let alone anyone’s car. If we do it it’s going to be in a bed. Jeez, Milly! I can’t believe you would even want me doing it in public like that!”
“Bernie, that isn’t what I meant! I meant, drag Brandon up onto the platform and kiss him in front of all the cars. I’ll be there with Jack and who knows who else will be there! Are you afraid your mom might be there?”
“Milly, first of all, my mom doesn’t do drive-in movies. Second, I’ll take the dare! I think it will be fun to get up. there. I just have to hope that Brandon will go along with it.”
“Well, just prove that you made your greatest effort and I will give you credit! But, you really have to try and convince him.”

Later that night, as the movie began to play, Milly, who was sitting with her head resting on Jack’s shoulder, sat up abruptly!
“Oh my God! She is doing it!”
“Doing what, Mill?”
“I dared Bernadette to drag Brandon onto the platform and kiss him in front of the whole drive-in theater and she is doing it! Aw, look how cute they both are!”
“I’d have done it,” Jack responded.
“Well, I know that. It wouldn’t have been much of a dare. I would definitely do it! Maybe we should surprise the crowd and get up there too.”
“Let’s not and say we did. Give them the limelight for now. I’m happy with kissing you right here.”

TODAY’S QUESTIONS

How organised are you when it comes to blogging? Do you have a blog schedule or do you play it by the ear? For the most part I am very organized but in a relaxed sort of way. Every morning I do the same routine, but it isn’t necessarily at the exact same time, which is why I say it is a bit relaxed. One of the things I have started doing is using my Rocketbook to keep track of challenges and prompts. If you haven’t heard of Rocketbook check out the video. The thing really is so great: https://getrocketbook.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwjZmTBhB4EiwAynRmDweuzvVj6ouzNR_vUKVMUdZe1Kna0FSouGXQ5qOs0a8-_u_echeTyhoCEx8QAvD_BwE
Anyhow, this lets me keep track and it uploads it so quickly to the right spot. That way I don’t have to search my blog posts for who-knows-how-long to look for a specific post. I am hoping it makes life easier.

How often do you’ tidy up’ your blog? e.g. go through your Drafts Folder, or go through old posts checking for broken links etc.? I don’t usually have much in the Drafts folder because I don’t like things there to begin with so they don’t pile up. I have to say that I have never gone through old posts checking links. One of the mistakes I did make and learned from was the media part of posts. My media “file” is getting full so I decided to go through it. There were some of the same pictures, etc. multiple times so I deleted all the copies except for one. Well, if you don’t already know this, what I did was erase the media from a specific post. So to be more clear, if I posted a picture of my dog a year ago and it was on five different posts and I delete four of the pictures in my media file, now four of those posts no longer have the picture there. I know this might not be a big deal but for things like my Book Tours and the such, I really would like the media to stay on there. Once I am full I guess I will either have to go back and do a big delete from way back or pay WP more $ to get more storage.
