Daily Compilation: Unknown Traveller

This is written for the following:

It wasn’t ’til October that the young man came to town
They described him as a gangster, he’s more like a tall clown
He wore a soft sombrero that later became a rag
the pathos that described him, they said he was a drag
Discrimination flowed not welcoming this poor soul
But thanks to other people, they let him play his role
In bringing much more pleasure to those both far and near
The glee that he emitted was shown from ear to ear.
No one minded that he stayed until he had to go
“When will you be back again?” the people want to know.

Simply 6 Minutes: 19th April

pensitivity101

Christine at Stine Writing is our hostess for this particular photo challenge.
This week our picture is from balconygardenweb-lhnfx0beomqvnhspx.netdna-ssl.com

Nan loved her garden but towards the end of her life, grew anxious about climate change and the effect it had on her plants.
The snowdrops and crocuses were always a beautiful sight, as were her daffodils and tulips, but when there was heavy snow in May, her mind went into overdrive.
‘Snow is acceptable on Christmas cards, mountain tops and ski resorts all year,’ she said,
‘but not here in the summer!’
When we visited a week later, we were greeted with a rather unusual, but somehow charming sight amongst the roses.
Nan had knitted little outfits for her border plants which now stood in regimental rows like small children at a school assembly.

Cover the Plants

A Unique Title For Me

When Alexa alerted me about the wind chill that we were going to get tonight, I went out and put these cute looking sock puppets on the snapdragons.  They are hardy plants, but they need a little help from me when temperatures drop below the freezing mark.  Snapdragons are classified as tender perennials when they are in mild climates, which is what we have here in Florida.  When they are planted outdoors, they must be kept warm to help them survive cold weather, and this can be done by placing fabric over the plants.  I love my snapdragons and I think that they are well worth the special care that they need.  Look how cute they look in the alien outfits that I made for them!  When they are all dressed up for the cold snap, I usually sing that Elvis song ‘Love Me Tender’ to them.

Fandango’s Story Starter #42

To join in go to Fandango’s site: https://fivedotoh.com/2022/04/19/fandangos-story-starter-42/

This week’s Story Starter teaser is:

I would have happily married Darlene if it weren’t for her…issues. There were only a few that I will mention and maybe I am just being picky or overreacting, but I didn’t want to start my life with a woman who already made me cringe. For example, she refused to cut her toenails over the garbage. Instead she must, she says, cut them in front of the TV. Then when I get home from work and want to kick off my boots and relax I nearly cut my foot open on the spare claws that get hung up in the carpet. Another example is her “dirty tissue receptacle”. Darlene doesn’t believe her DNA should be so available in her garbage so she purposely gets rid of her snotty tissues in one container she keeps in the kitchen, on the counter no less! She says she must throw the tissues in the special “tissue garbage” so as to limit her DNA left in the main pail. The other third, but not last, issue that just keeps coming up is the bathroom. Now, before you stop listening to me, hear me out. I need to get this out of my head and this is the only way I know how and it may help some poor soul in the future. So, the bathroom. She refuses to flush anything but bodily waste down the toilet. That means no paper and no tissues! I get it! No clogs! But I am willing to use that cheap, super-thin paper just so I can flush it! I don’t know if this is the same for anyone else but if you meet Darlene, run the other way!

Twiglet #275 – The Owl and the Crows

Posted on  by Misky

a world of words

Since our world is so full of words I decided for today I would use the word generator to give me a word to use for my writing.

Todays word: plumigerous – wearing or possessing feathers

The Owl and the Crows

Which of you looks best in black? the Owl asked the Crows
I think you’ll find which one you like, Crow’s face began to glow
Crow number one was black and blue with a little bit of green
Crow number two was also black with a greenish-pinkish sheen
Crow number three was darkest black, as black as night is dark
Crow number four shown just dark gray, he lived out in the park.

The Owl looked but frowned and drew a deep breath through his beak
He didn’t want to hurt the crows but then began to speak
“Crow over there, you are so fine, I love the greenish hue
Crow number two I like that pinkish tone shading on you
Crow up in the trees, as dark as night, could barely be seen
Crow number four just laughed at owl, he was feeling mean

I cannot tell whose plumigerous beauty is the best
So what I’ll do is take my time, I need a little rest
So Owl went and napped a bit, he woke up with a start
I know which one, I know it’s true, it comes right from my heart
Crow number one and number two are beautiful and dark
Crow number three and number four have really made their mark
But only one can be the best, the best as all can be
And so I tell you, all four crows, the most beautiful is me

*****For any participants that do NOT like restrictions, please feel free to participate in any way you would like. It is great to read the contributions!****

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*

Thank you for participating!
