Book Review: Anger is an Acid

53356020. sy475

Anger is an Acid is the third book in Michael Clark’s series of ghost stories. This final tale is one you won’t be able to put down until the last page! Tim wants his girls back and can’t bear to lose anyone else in the process. It takes all he has, to not succumb to death as his heart is breaking at the thought of losing his two beautiful daughters.

Tim and Holly are tired of Mildred and her murderous antics. With the news of Mildred Wells now gone public, staying out of the public eye is nearly impossible. Clark introduces some new characters to thicken the plot of the dangerous situation Tim and Holly are in, making a ghost story that is so believable and haunting at the same time. Just when you aren’t sure how the author is going to pull off another step in the plot he does so seamlessly, and you continue to be engaged. Without spoilers I’d say the ending is a good one and you will definitely be happy reading to the very last page.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars for a book that is written in such a way that it is so realistic that even if you don’t believe in ghosts, you will still fear for Tim and Holly and wonder what Mildred Wells is going to do next! If you start with book #1 there is really no downfall to the series, however as a stand-alone book there may be loose ends that are confusing to a reader started with book #3.

From my desk: 01/21/21

Hello WordPress! I miss my blog, my interactions, my writing. I am in Florida caring for my father and stepmother. Stepmother has not been well. She finished a chemo treatment last week that has left her so very sick. We took her to the hospital today because she was vomiting, dehydrated, and her blood count has been so low. She is there for fluids and a transfusion. My father is so unhappy as he doesn’t remember all the details and is so accustomed to her being with him. For anyone who prays, please say a prayer she gets better.

I miss my daughter and my David! I miss Brody and my guinea pigs. I DON”T miss the cold northern weather! Florida has been “chilly”, only in the 60’s mostly. Better than the 20’s!

I started tutoring. The young man I am tutoring is very kind and nice. You can tell he loves his family. The planning is taking a lot of my time as I haven’t been in the classroom in almost two years and even then I was in high school and my new student is in 6th grade. The one super-wonderful part of this is I have reconnected with an old friend who is an Occupational Therapist, who I worked with many years ago, but will be working with again.

I hope to get back more to my writing. I miss the challenges and the interactions. I miss reading all the other great work of my fellow bloggers. Feel free to tag me in a post if you think it is something I would really enjoy. I feel like I am missing so much!

Thanks for following and for reading. I miss this blogging family but should be back “full-time” soon.

Marvin’s Night Out

“Betsy, I’m heading out to look for Buster.”

“Marvin, do you have to bother that poor dog every night?”

“Well, if he isn’t going to learn in one night then I must continue the lesson until he learns.”

“That is awful, Marvin. The only thing you are doing is traumatizing that poor dog. He isn’t smart enough to learn your lesson without being told what he is supposed to be learning.”

“Honestly, Betsy. If he can’t tell that when I put my tail up, I am going to spray him again, like the night before and the night before that, then he gets sprayed, end of story.”

“Whatever Marvin. I just don’t think that poor dog should have to go through your schooling every single night.”

She has no idea what this guy is like. Droopy ears, slobber down his chin, poop stuck to the fur near his butt…He is gross and needs multiple baths. If his owners don’t start smartening up and trying to explain the reason for my lessons, then they are just as dumb as he is. Leave him be…Ha! How can I when I get so much joy out of the look in his eyes? (199 words)

Simply Six Minutes: The Eagle Flies On Friday…

I love musical contributions! Thanks John for participating!

The Sound of One Hand Typing

Saw the above prompt for this week and thought immediately of this…

I do know that I wouldn’t be as happy as the Saturday baby if I had to go to work, particularly after a week of work like the one depicted above…

Monday was not my favorite day, but it was really no different from any other day of the week work-wise. I know Monday always has the reputation of being a real rough day, but I could just as easily have a good day on Monday and a lousy one on Tuesday, and I have. Days when it was snowing were the worst, or winter days when the wind would blow in whatever direction I seemed to be going.

Being retired has changed this somewhat, mostly because now every day seems to blend into all the others. Mary and I take turns asking each other “what’s today? Wednesday?”

*****For any participants that do NOT like restrictions, please feel free to participate in any way you would like. It is great to read the contributions!****

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
  6. Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.

Thank you for participating!

QUESTIONS:

Why do we dream? I think we dream because we have so many ideas in our heads and so many things that we think about. Our days are chock full of stimulation, there is no way that the conscious mind can tend to it all in a day. The thing I don’t understand is how they are supposedly so short even though it may feel like a dream lasts all night!

Do you think a person’s name influences the person they become? I’m not sure if it influences who they become but I think it can influence how they interact with others. I suppose that does affect how they grow and develop. My mom used to say that kids with strange names had it harder in life because people would always wonder where their names came from, what they meant, if they were an indicator of who the person was. I don’t believe it to that extent but I do think that looking to make your child the most original with a weird name can be confusing to them when they start school and feel like they are so different because all the other kids have “normal” names.

Does hardship make a person stronger?  (example:  What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger) I don’t think it is the hardship that makes you stronger, it is how you deal with it and choose to learn from it. My life is very different than it was three years ago and although it has been difficult I don’t think it has made me stronger. In actuality it has almost weakened my strenght.

Why do we judge ourselves by our intentions, but judge others by their actions? Because you can’ read others’ minds to know their intentions, you only see what they do…how they act.

I am so grateful for my daughter, for David, for Laurette, and my dad. They make it all worth it!

Fandango’s Flashback Friday

Todays is really a flashback “Thursday” since my Fridays from last year were not really of any interest to me to repost. Anyhow, it is close enough. To participate in Flashback Friday check out Fandango’s site: https://fivedotoh.com/2021/01/15/fandangos-flashback-friday-january-15/

FOWC with Fandango: press

What do you think of when you hear the word press? Do you think of a newspaper company printing out black and white pages at crazy speeds? Do you think about putting pressure on the button of the remote with your finger to turn on the television? Do you think about calling your best friend and delving into their private life to get at least one juicy detail? Do you think about a glass of wine and the work it took to make it? Or do you think about the people who cover all of the news on a daily basis?

Until I decide what kind of “press” I want to use, I am unable to write anything using this word. I feel like my own ambitions are pressing me to figure this out now!

Sunday Six Sentence Story

Check this out here: https://girlieontheedge1.wordpress.com/2021/01/10/sundays-six-sentence-story-word-prompt-142/

This weeks word is filter

Jenny walked out of the room, her face beet-red, feeling embarrassed and ashamed of the man she brought as her date. Not only had he completely under-dressed for the occasion, even though she told him what everyone else would be wearing, he showed up twenty five minutes late! Then there was the conversation with her boss! He had absolutely no filter, telling her boss about their intimacy and what they did when they were alone together in the bedroom. She would never be able to look at her boss again, not without shame written all over her face. He had been one of her worst decisions ever!

Shadow: The Daily Spur

Check out the Daily Spur for today’s word: https://thedailyspur.wordpress.com/2021/01/13/shadow/

Somedays it’s there
somedays it ain’t
Somedays it’s dark black
it looks like dark paint.
No one escapes it
Everyone can try
A shadow is scary
It makes scared people cry.
we don’t know who’s hiding
we don’t know how far
the darkness will get you
but it won’t leave a scar.
