Small Portions
If I were to save
just one small bite
it could make a meal,
well maybe it might
it could be a portion
fit for a kid
There I just left it
No, really, I did!

With each passing week
my heart still aches
remembering my son
is all that it takes
to bring me to tears
with each brand new day
why won’t this pain
just go away?

Mom, are Mr. and Mrs. Finkle fighting again?
I don’t know? Why do you ask?
Well, Mrs. Finkle must have gotten locked out of the house and now she’s trying to get back in.
What do you mean she is trying to get back in? She has a key I’m sure.
I don’t know but Mr. Finkle is just watching her struggle.
He’s what?
Mom, you gotta come see this! I think Mrs. Finkle might be stuck!
Stuck where?
Just come here!

I see the inground pool and I reminisce about years I lived in the countryside.
My neighbors on one side purchased inground pools and on the other side of
them was those, including I, who could only afford above-ground ones.
Each summer we women would gather around poolside while we watched
our young children play and sometimes disagree. There was one game they
played where spoken over and over were the words ‘Marco Polo’
If only I could turn back the clock and relive those happier times of my life.
Sadly we make decisions based on circumstances and for some of us there are
no re-dos.
On occasion I dream about days and nights gone by only dreams often become
nightmares – ones I wish ne’er compare to happier yesterdays.

My Contribution:
I sat looking out the window at the pool. We had it put in about four years ago and the kids had loved it for the first two years. After that it sort of sat unless I went in it, which was fine, I liked to relax and float about.
I guess the time was coming for me to drag out the cover. It wasn’t that is was hard to put on, but it was hard to drag out of the shed without picking up all the dirt and dragging that into the water. I usually had Bill here to help me but he was off with his buddies. I could wait but I started seeing leaves start to fall yesterday and the last thing I want to do is clean out all leaves before all the leaves fell in the pool.
I never knew if I was worth it to run the pump all summer if I was the only enjoying it.Then agian…..
