Our World Adventure – Democratic Republic of Congo

Okapi are so cool!

Anyday Adventures

For our second last week of our big trip we headed to the Democratic Republic of Congo, or DR Congo for short. Another country I knew absolutely nothing about, but our first time in Africa.

On reading a little bit about DR Congo, I learnt it was very rich in gemstones, diamonds and gold. I thought it would be fun to make “diamonds” with the girls, they turned out great. The best part was we grew this diamond in only about 5 hours, so was fun to keep checking on it throughout the day.

Head here for the video (it’s so sparkly) and to get the instructions to make it.

We also learned that DR Congo was the only place that the Okapi is found…. it’s a type of animal if you didn’t know. A little similar to a giraffe but with stripes like a zebra.

First we watched these…

The great giraffe centre ,Nairobi

I am going to a drive through safari on Wednesday and I get to feed the giraffes! So excited!

pe blog

Giraffe are endangered animal species in Kenya and mostly in Africa . The project “Giraffe Centre “ was founded in 1979 at Langata, Nairobi to support and protect them, especially the most threatened ones : the Rothschild’s giraffe. Open daily from 11am to 5pm, you will learn there more about this program .And get kissed by this gentle animal during feeding.

Giraffes are known as the tallest animal in the world . Their long necks about 2–2.4m (6.6–7.9ft) and legs help them to reach the leaves on tree-tops . They can run and speed up to 60km/h. And their favorite food are Acacia leaves . Their coat pattern serve them as camouflage in the savanna.

The Giraffe Centre is the creation of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W. Kenya). Not only do they rescue giraffes, they give also any visitors an opportunity to come into…

Three Things Challenge #385

For 3TC: https://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2020/10/11/three-things-challenge-385/

Your three things today are:

SONG
HYSTERICS
MOVEMENT

When Billy and I walked into the house my mother was in hysterics. We had no idea what she was crying about and then I saw movement in my peripheral vision. Turning that way I saw a giant spider. No wonder she was freaking out! I started wailing too and our noise was sounding like a rock song. The loudness must have scared the creature away because suddenly we were alone and Billy was rolling on the floor laughing.

The Cat’s New Game

The Cat in the Hat
came back to the house
He knew that the kids
were with mom and her spouse.

He took out his fist
and knocked on the door
The kids they were happy
to see him once more

He told them he wanted
to play a new game
he said he would tell them
Choo Choo was the name.

He said that the game
was to work as a team
to fit each together
like a train full of steam

Hold on to each other
march along like a group
walk in a circle
make a big, giant loop

Then make a loud noise
like a whistle of steam
isn’t this fun
to work along as a team

The Cat said goodbye
when he cleaned up the toys
Choo Choo was a great game
even with the loud noise.

The Bird – The Sunday Whirl: Wordle #477

Thanks to Brenda for hosting: https://sundaywhirl.wordpress.com/2020/10/11/wordle-478/

The Bird

I’ve heard there’s a bird
who was grim and was blue
he didn’t have much
that he liked to do.

He’d dribble when drinking
and groan with each bite
Other birds stared with pity
some knew he wasn’t quite right.

From up in the tree top
amongst leaves and debris
the bird was disgusted
and wondered how this could be.

So with a smile and a shrug
he acquiesced to his prowess
he decided to figure
to rid life of its foulness.

Instead of his usual
crying high in the tree
he decided his bawling
was in no way healthy

with a ruffle of feathers
and a flick of his beak
up the treetop he went
and he began there to speak

It was inevitable that he
got right to the tip
done lamenting on faults
his attitude did flip.

He looked at the sky,
and inhaled really quick
and fell to the ground
where the cushioning was thick.

He ran to the edge
of the forest he knows
and screamed from his lungs
He said “My old life blows!”

So a new life began
right there on the spot
the bird he was smokin’
The new bird was hot.

He had some new friends
and he laughed and he played
and with his new friends
is the place that he stayed.
