Color
When was the last time you looked in a mirror
To see what color your skin was
Or to see how many blemishes you could find?
When was the last time you looked in your wallet
To see if the color of the money somehow matched
The color of your skin, or at least complimented it?
When was the last time you closed your eyes
And saw only one color in your dreams?
How can you say that color makes people different?
Is a Box turtle better than a Pond turtle?
Is a Maltese dog better than a Scottie?
Is a German Shephard weird because it has more than one color?
Where on the color wheel does it say that one color has more value than another?
Wasn’t colored television an improvement to only black and white pictures?
Where does this come from?
Where does this make sense?
Who has a good reason that color makes a difference?

The color is something we spent our life on (or lose your life for some)

Hasn’t it become a waste of time since we know the truth?

I love the poignancy with which this poem is penned! Yes, colour makes no difference. We are one and the same 🙂

Love this protest verse, Christine. We judge others all the time by so many different parameters, color being just one of them. And even people of color are judged by the darkness of their color by other people of color. And then there’s class divisions. All used by the power-hungry to create political divisions. What the hell is wrong with us?? Sigh.

Dora, I just can’t understand how it continues. Perhaps centuries ago people thought there might be a difference but we know it is scientifically not an issue with the worth of a person.

It’s human nature or original sin, whichever you want to call it. Something in us needing to believe that some are more equal than others. And if it’s not one thing it’ll be another. The problem is spiritual, not rational.

Honest and true. A lesson unlearned throughout the pages of time, sad to say.

It’s just one supposed tribe picking on another when we’re all part of the same family, part of the same spectrum – strong words, Christine.

Good questions and it must never have bearings on color of skins. Equality is important, but hard truths. Good piece Stine!

You raised some very good points. Underneath all our colors, I have learned that we are the same. I am grateful to Canada for opening my eyes that multi culural communities can co-exist in harmony. Thanks for sharing.
