“Simply 6-minutes” Writing Challenge 08/11/2020

Welcome to the challenge: 08/11/2020

Rules of this challenge:

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
  6. Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.
  7. I would appreciate feedback on how often writer’s would like this challenge. Is it a once a week challenge? Just Saturdays? Let me know a day that perhaps there aren’t a lot of other challenges already scheduled.

Today’s Prompt:

Thank you for participating!

My Contribution:

The Cruise

Peter had told Vera that the ships were cleaned since COVID hit.  He didn’t know that meant no one was allowed to be near one another at all! The whole ship seemed deserted. Peter didn’t mind as much during the day but what were he and Vera to do in the evenings. There wouldn’t be dancing, you stand too close. There wouldn’t be Karoake because you share a microphone. There wouldn’t be a stage show because the actors and actresses can’t be that close. He guessed they would spend their time at the bar and the casino. At least the drinks were free.

Vera thought the cruise was divine. No one near her while she sunned her skin and read her book.  She hated it when she was in the middle of a chapter and somebody has to come over and ask what she is reading or if she likes the boat. Hello, can’t you see I am busy! Anyhow, she thought tonight her and Peter could eat a late dinner, maybe have a drink at the bar and then catch a movie on the ship’s movie network. There had to be some old romantic comedy that they could fall asleep to. Maybe they could order room service, at least that could be done, given you follow the rules and not open your cabin door before the waiter had left.

Peter figured it was going to be a long night. How was he going to entertain Vera on this deserted ship? No one they could mingle with, no one to talk to. He even hated that when they laid in the sun on the deck that there was no one passing by to just shoot-the-shit with now and then. (289 words)
