Simply 6 Minutes – Papping!

Simply 6 Minutes contribution! Enjoy.

Simply 6 Minutes 5Aug20

Rosie loved coming to this restaurant for afternoon tea.

She made it her sacred appointment; every Tuesday.

She particularly loved watching the world through the greenery.

It created a softness, and perfectly framed the drama.

The people she’d seen.

Neighbours, celebrities, politicians; the gamut.

And the gossip she’d passed on from her surreptitious papping!

Her friend Nora, two doors down, caught out kissing another woman;

And Nora married to Ben these 15 years!

Her local MP shaking hands with a known drug criminal;

or was it actually passing over of something, not hand shaking, going on?

Some of her favourite TV soap actors visited this hotel; ate at this very restaurant.

Rosie had seen some dubious behaviour and fed some tittle-tat on to the papers.

Oh, the media couldn’t say who their ‘source’ was, but Rosie was delighted when she recognised herself in those stories.

Quite a few celebrities…

Three Things Challenge

Written for Di:

Your three things today are:

The New Pet

Veva stopped the tennis match she had been watching on television, knowing her brother would be stopping by any minute. Bruce was coming by to show her his new exotic parrot. He had gone to the store to see what pets they had that might suit his lifestyle. Bruce told Veva that the parrot was a perfect fit because he wanted something that lived a long time.

This Week’s Question

  1. Answer the following question in a post on your own blog.
  1. Tag your post “Truthful Tuesday”
  1. Link back here with your response. Pingbacks are enabled, or you can just leave a link in the comments.
  1. Check out what others have said.

What three movies best sum up your taste in movies, and why?

My answer:

50 First Dates, Silence of the Lambs, Finding Nemo

50 First Dates because I love the true love aspect of the relationship. I also feel that if I met someone, a guy in my case, I would do what Adam Sandler does to help “him” remember me each day. My dad has dementia, so it has some similarities there.

Silence of the Lambs because my dream had been to be “Clarice” in the FBI. I wanted to do the things that she did including talking to the people in prison who are so deranged. That mental state fascinates me because I want to know how a mind thinks like that. I still wish I could do it but I am too old to be hired by the FBI.

Finding Nemo because I love Disney, I love clownfish, and I love that Nemo still loves Dory even though she can’t remember anything. When I got my first tattoo the guy asked what I wanted. I said a clownfish because they made me think of my mother. Finding Nemo had just come out, so he asked if I wanted Nemo. I said sure. I wish I had just gotten my clownfish, but Nemo is fine.

The Sixth Step

I did it every time I was there, it didn’t matter who I was with. I’d walk up six steps and put our names. Luckily, having the name Dave made it hard for my girlfriends to think that the other “Dave loves so-and-so” could have been me. Walking up the stairs with Veva I counted in my head. I never told any of them that I went to the sixth step and luckily, they never asked why I stopped there. I always tried to have a different color marker than the last time I was there just in case she noticed the same color and saw that it was the same handwriting. I was hoping this was the last time I had to come to this sixth step. I really loved Veva.

“Simply 6-minutes” Writing Challenge 08/04/2020

Welcome to the challenge: 07/28/2020

Rules of this challenge:

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
  4. After you are done writing, include your word count and then post back to this page #Simply6Minutes or include your link in the comments section. Pingbacks are enabled.
  5. *Feel free to leave your work completely unedited. I believe it is good to see, especially for new writers, that even very seasoned writers don’t write a perfect first draft.*
  6. Have fun, challenge yourself if you’d like, read and respond to others’ posts.
  7. I would appreciate feedback on how often writer’s would like this challenge. Is it a once a week challenge? Just Saturdays? Let me know a day that perhaps there aren’t a lot of other challenges already scheduled.

Today’s Prompt:

Thank you for participating!

Haibun Birthday

Written for dverse poets pub:

The Day

The day has come to celebrate the one day that you can call your own, in some way. There will be thousands of others, perhaps millions that also share your day, but it is still your day. Pay tribute to your life.

You live only once
Your life matters more today
This earth is now yours

Grandiloquent: Word of the day challenge

Written for Melanie:

  1. pompous or extravagant in language, style, or manner, especially in a way that is intended to impress.

How I am

Miss Grandiose they called me
when I was really young.
But now that I am older
my opinions are so strong,
that if they think I’m tempted
by only the finer things
They’re right about my boyfriend
a grandiloquent human being.
