A Guy Called Bloke Feature Ridikky

Just 6 questions …..

Do you think more marriages means more happiness?[Interpret as you wish]I mean they don’t have to be your marriages, maybe there is more happiness to be had in someone else’s right? Once was enough for me but you know that’s just me….
In the current climate are you talking to yourself more or less … interpret as you wish, but are you talking to yourself more or less when it’s warmer or colder??Yeah, yeah that climate not the other climate unless you do want to answer the question under that climate.
Do you prefer to buy your own flowers for the house/home, have someone buy them for you, steal them from the neighbours garden or sneak into the local undertakers and help yourself to the pretty bunches?[Asking for a friend]
Have you found yourself to be more or less reflective recently? As in when you look into a mirror ….
What’s your special weird habit?I don’t mean Monks either unless you are a Monk, then l do mean what is your weird habit … erm like?
When was the last time you literally woke up and smelled the coffee??I know like what ever next ?The last time you smelled a ?Exactly!!

Here are my answers:

Do you think more marriages means more happiness?[Interpret as you wish]I mean they don’t have to be your marriages, maybe there is more happiness to be had in someone else’s right? Once was enough for me but you know that’s just me….
My husband of 21 years passed away in June 2018. I planned on staying married to him until the end. After he passed I said I would never marry again. I don’t know if I would or not. I have David now and things are wonderful.

In the current climate are you talking to yourself more or less … interpret as you wish, but are you talking to yourself more or less when it’s warmer or colder??Yeah, yeah that climate not the other climate unless you do want to answer the question under that climate.
I think I talk to myself more when it is warmer out. The cold just makes me miserable and all I can think about is how cold I am. When it is warm out, I can sit and relax, thus, talking more to myself.

Do you prefer to buy your own flowers for the house/home, have someone buy them for you, steal them from the neighbours garden or sneak into the local undertakers and help yourself to the pretty bunches?[Asking for a friend]
Ironic that this is your question. This year will be the first in almost 10 or 11 years that I have to buy my own flowers. My husband, who passed in 2018, used to get me all of my vegetable and flower plants for Mother’s Day. Last year, since he was gone, my son did all of the shopping and surprised me with tons of plants. My son passed away in July 2019. I am dreading Mother’s Day not only because I lost my son, but because there was so much more behind it. I still have my daughter which I am so thankful for. I don’t know if she will buy any plants, she isn’t really into gardening and all that.

Have you found yourself to be more or less reflective recently? As in when you look into a mirror ….
I have found that I sometimes go days without really looking in the mirror. I mean there is one in the bathroom so when I was my hands I see my reflection, but I don’t really acknowledge it.

What’s your special weird habit?I don’t mean Monks either unless you are a Monk, then l do mean what is your weird habit … erm like?
I think one of my weird habits is to use my electric toothbrush in the morning and my manual (regular) toothbrush in the evening. I rarely ever use the electric in the evening.

When was the last time you literally woke up and smelled the coffee??I know like what ever next ?The last time you smelled a ?Exactly!!
Actually, a few weeks ago I slept in and David came up with breakfast in bed and a cup of coffee. It smelled so good! It is a very warm, welcoming smell!

This old boat

Too far from water to enjoy the waves

Too close to water to be secure on land.

Too messy to look brand new.

To clean to look old and used.

Left to rise above the water.

No longer able to sink in the sea.

Still vacant on an empty dock.

Once occupied by a lover of the sea.

Thankful to be safe and dry.

Wanting to float freely in the waves.

LIFES ALLUSIONS: Ragtag Daily Prompt Thursday

Written for The Ragtag Community https://ragtagcommunity.wordpress.com/2020/04/16/ragtag-daily-prompt-thursday-lifes-allusions/

Life is an allusion

Life is an allusion

It plays a trick on you

Watch out for any signs

For what it is to do.

Right now there’s a virus

Its killing all in sight

Wash your hands, wear a mask

And you will win the fight.

Happiness is not earned

It’s felt way deep inside

Let this plan your journey

Let optimism be your guide.

Coronavirus: Capt Tom Moore’s NHS fundraiser hits £14million

I thought this was such a beautiful story! We need more of these stories floating around!

OgeneAfrican

UNITED KINGDOM – A 99-year-old war veteran has walked 100 laps of his garden to raise £14m and counting for the NHS.

Captain Tom Moore originally wanted to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together by completing laps of his garden before his 100th birthday.

But he smashed his target after more than 700,000 people made donations to his fundraising page.

As he finished the challenge, he said: “I feel fine, I hope you’re all feeling fine too.”

Capt Tom told the BBC earlier that the total amount raised so far was “an absolutely fantastic sum of money”.

“I never dreamt I would be involved in such an occasion as this,” he said at the end of his final lap.

Nonsense words

What is a nonsense word and how could that help my child in any way?

A nonsense word is a made up word. Have you ever read Dr. Seuss and wondered where he got some of his characters? Yes, he made them up! A nonsense word can be made by taking a well known word and changing one or two letters, or many of the letters. Nonsense words can be made by rhyming.

Reading and hearing nonsense words helps to reinforce phonetic learning and phonemic awareness.
According the Harvard.edu “Phonetics is the study of speech sounds”.
According to University of Oregon Phonemic awareness is “the ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in spoken words and the understanding that spoken words and syllables are made up of sequences of speech sounds”.
Why does this matter? Think about the last time you read a book. If it was an easier read, it was as such probably because many of the words followed familiar phonemic combinations. Have you ever tried to read a technical or reference book? Some of those words are not familiar and you may have had to look closely to know what it said. That is using phonics and your phonemic awareness to read.

What are some ideas?

  1. What words rhyme with….
Box? fox, lox, sox. jox, mox, nox…. Are they all real words? No, but they follow the rule of rhyming.
  2. Change all the a’s to i’s….
cat is cit, bat is bit, rag is rig…Not all real words but they follow rules of vowel sounds.
  3. Add a “y” to the end of every word…
table — tably, car —- cary, sit — sitty. Do it the other way?
baby —- babe, lazy —- laze.
What is a real word and what isn’t?

Many of these activities are more common with the smaller kids. It can be super fun with any age! Have you read any of the “Amelia Bedelia” books? Amelia Bedelia makes up words all the time, making each of her adventures a hysterical escapade. What about the old “Pig Latin”. According to Webster: Pig Latin is “a made-up language formed from English by transferring the initial consonant or consonant cluster of each word to the end of the word and adding a vocalic syllable (usually ˈpiɡ ˌlatn: so chicken soup would be translated to ickenchay oupsay . Pig Latin is typically spoken playfully, as if to convey secrecy.”

Have fun with words. It makes everyone laugh and surprising makes everyone a better reader.
