You were here for me every step of the way, no matter how treacherous or uncomfortable you were. You provided me with comfort and safety, a safe place to express my deepest fears and darkest hurts.
You were here
when I needed you most
providing comfort, a warm shoulder,
like an old worn sweater
still smelling like dad’s cologne.

I’ve been an educator most of my life, too, and so I am drawn to your blog and to your writing for children. This poem (You Were Here) is delightful. We all need a David in our lives… one who is faithfully here for us… and one who reminds us of our beloved dad.

Thank you! I don’t teach at the moment but I am thinking about going back if I can get a Special Ed Director job. I love seeing the kids and interacting, I just can’t be in a classroom anymore.
